Mets Turn Back South Side, 4-3
|
South Side got a terrific performance from left fielder Don Baylor, but it wasn't enough to beat the New York Mets. New York won the Comisky Park contest, 4-3. Baylor was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to Bill Dailey in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Mace Brown took the loss. New York goes to 21-11 with the win.
New York used the timely hitting of Kirby Puckett to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Mets on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," said Puckett. "But I like how we're playing right now."
