Divisional Series Game 1 Victory for Garcia and South Side
The Divisional Series got off to a quiet start today, with the host South Side White Sox taking a low-scoring 2-1 win over the Bronx Yankees. South Side right-hander Freddy Garcia was marvelous at Comisky Park and was named player of the game. The White Sox now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Phil Cavarretta, who led the AL in hits with 197 in 1965, aided the South Side cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the first baseman drove in one run.

"It's a mindset," said Garcia. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."

Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow at Comisky Park in Chicago. Slated to start are Matt Young for Bronx and Mace Brown for South Side.
