Orioles Lose to Mets, 6-5
|
New York starter Dick Donovan pitched effectively against the Baltimore Orioles at Shea Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a 6-5 win. Donovan got the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 5 hits and walked 3 over 5 innings. Donovan allowed 1 earned run. The Mets, now 3-1, have played some good baseball in the early going.
The Mets got a big at-bat from shortstop Chuck Schilling. For the game, Schilling was 1-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave New York a 2-0 lead.
"If we keep winning the close games," Donovan said, "we'll be in good shape at the end."
