Expos Bang Out 7-4 Win Versus Kansas City
|
With designated hitter Ron LeFlore leading the charge, the Montreal Expos defeated the Kansas City Royals, 7-4, at La Stade Olympique. LeFlore, who finished 5th in the AL in stolen bases with 48 in 1967, went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Snipe Hansen got credit for the win, improving to 10-11. He allowed 4 runs on 9 hits in 9 innings. The Expos go to 70-92, putting them second in the National League Left.
Preston Ward had a big run-scoring single for the Expos in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Montreal leading 4-3 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Jim Barr and stroked the single to center. It was his 141st hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Expos ahead, 5-3.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Ward.
