Rockies Come Back Late, Nip Brewers
|
The Milwaukee Brewers got a sterling performance from designated hitter Jim Bottomley, but the Rockies still prevailed, 6-5. Bottomley was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He went 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. The winner was Chris R Young, who threw 160 pitches over 9 innings. The right-hander was charged with 5 runs on 11 hits. The Rockies have an impressive 98-62 record.
Keith Hernandez was the walk-off hero for Colorado. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Rockies first baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"A great team win and something real positive we can build on," said Hernandez after the game.
