Red Sox Get Road Win, 8-5
|
The Boston Red Sox knocked off the Bronx Yankees, 8-5, at Yankee Stadium I. Vern Stephens, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Boston won. The second baseman went 4-5 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 times. Shawn Estes earned the win for Boston. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 11-11. Boston leads the American League Down by 4 games.
It could have been a different outcome for Boston, had it not been for Mason Williams, the 33-year old center fielder . Williams contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the eighth inning to put Boston up, 6-4.
"The division is still up for grabs, but I like our chances," Stephens told the Boston Daily News.
