Johnson goes 4-for-5, Mets Move to 102-58
|
Lamar Johnson helped his team muscle past the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-6. In the game, the New York designated hitter went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. New York starter Vincent Velasquez was credited with the win after throwing 145 pitches over 7 innings. His record now stands at 7-3. Tom Butters earned his 12th save in 23 chances.
It could have been a different outcome for New York, had it not been for Eric Karros, the five-time All-Star . Karros contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put New York up, 5-4.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Karros said.
New York is now 102-58, 9½ games up in the American League Up.
