Mets Bang Out 10-5 Win Versus St. Louis
The St. Louis Cardinals got a superb performance from shortstop Edgardo Alfonzo. Still, it wasn't enough to beat New York. The Mets won the game, 10-5. In spite of the loss, Alfonzo was named the player of the game. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 times. New York is now 101-58, 8½ games up in the American League Up.

It could have been a different outcome for New York, had it not been for Ed Romero, the 30-year old shortstop . Romero contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning to put New York up, 4-2.

Romero called the triumph "a good team win."
