White Sox Turn Back Milwaukee, 3-2
|
The South Side White Sox got a strong performance from pitcher Brad Penny, who stymied the Milwaukee offense en route to a 3-2 win at County Stadium. Penny, now 16-13, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 0, walking 0, and allowing 2 earned runs. Brady Raggio notched his 3rd save in 4 chances.
South Side used the timely hitting of Phil Cavarretta to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the White Sox on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" South Side manager Ricky Sanford said.
The White Sox, at 79-79, sit in third place in the National League Right.
