Cubs Fall Short at Kansas City
|
For the home crowd, it was a thrilling walk-off win.
The Chicago Cubs got a superb performance from catcher Terry Steinbach, but the Kansas City Royals still won the game, 7-6. Steinbach was named the player of the game despite the loss. He went 4-4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Kansas City now sits at 62-96, while Chicago falls to 98-60.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Johnny Lewis came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Facing Chicago pitcher Pedro Feliciano, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Kansas City on top, 7-6.
"This place was rockin'," said Lewis.
