Red Sox Stymie Brooklyn, Take 6-1 Win
|
Al Shealy never let Brooklyn get something going. The Boston right-hander commanded his curveball in pitching the Red Sox to a 6-1 win. Dutch Kemner was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 11 of 12 save opportunities. The first-place Red Sox, at 84-73, now lead their division by 3½ games.
Steve Braun had a big 2-run single for the Red Sox in the top of the seventh inning. With Boston trailing 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from John D'Acquisto and stroked the single to left. It was his 151st hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Sox ahead, 2-1.
Shealy told a Boston Daily News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
