Diamondbacks Lose, 5-3, at Shea Stadium
|
New York and Arizona duked it out at Shea Stadium and the Mets came out victorious.
The New York Mets topped the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-3, in American League action at Shea Stadium. The player of the game was New York pitcher and Birmingham, Alabama native Jay Tibbs. The win was credited to Tom Butters in relief. His record improves to 8-3. Ismael Valdez took the loss.
Marlon Byrd, who is tied for 9th in the AL in triples with 6, chipped in for New York with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said New York manager Jamie Dagostini.
New York leads the American League Up by 8 games.
