The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Montreal Expos, 5-3, at La Stade Olympique. The win was largely due to the efforts of designated hitter Jim Bottomley, who captured player of the game honors. Milwaukee used the timely hitting of Danny Murtaugh to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Brewers on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
