The Colorado Rockies topped the Kansas City Royals, 5-3, in National League action at Kauffman Stadium. The player of the game was Colorado pitcher Ben Sheets. Sheets, now 15-7, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 3 earned runs. The Rockies bumped their record to 96-60 with this latest triumph.

Colorado used the clutch hitting of Biff Pocoroba to capture the win. The catcher drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Rockies the lead, 4-3. For the game, Pocoroba had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
