White Sox Turn Back Detroit, 5-3
|
The South Side White Sox topped the Detroit Tigers, 5-3, in National League action at Tiger Stadium. The player of the game was South Side pitcher and Dickson, Tennessee native John Mitchell. In 9 innings, Mitchell surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 3. He allowed 3 runs. The White Sox improve their record to 77-78 with the win over Detroit.
South Side used the timely hitting of Dick Brown to seize the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the White Sox on top, 5-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Mitchell told the South Side Observer.
