Dominant Performance by Keenan in New York Win
|
The New York Mets got a stellar performance from pitcher Jimmie Keenan, who handcuffed the Boston offense en route to a 7-1 win at Shea Stadium. Al Hrabosky got the save, his 22nd in 27 chances. The first-place Mets, at 98-57, now lead their division by 6½ games.
Keenan made it look effortless. He scattered 2 hits over 6 innings, while racking up 8 strikeouts. The New York left-hander encountered little resistance from the Boston hitters. His season record is now 6-3.
"This was a good win for us," said Keenan. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
