Pirates Lose, 4-1, at County Stadium
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates got a superb performance from pitcher Hal Brown. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Milwaukee. The Brewers won the game, 4-1. In spite of the loss, Brown was named the player of the game. He threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball. Milwaukee reliever Bill E Anderson picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Hal Brown absorbed the loss. Scott Atchison closed the game out for Milwaukee, earning his 2nd save.
The Brewers got a big at-bat from third baseman Curt Flood. For the game, Flood was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 5th double of the season gave Milwaukee a 2-1 lead.
Flood told a local reporter: "My job is to go out and play as hard as I can."
The Brewers are off to a tough start, getting just their 11th win in 29 games.
