The Expos had to overcome a good performance from Chicago pitcher Fritz Peterson to claim a 6-5 win at Wrigley Field. Peterson went 6.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. Montreal reliever Cy Buker was the winner. His record is now 3-0. Tim Cooney took the loss. Fautino De Los Santos was called on to finish, recording his 4th save.
Montreal needed the clutch hitting of Preston Ward to notch the win. The center fielder hammered a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Expos on top, 6-5. For the game, Ward had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"It was sure nice to get the win but there's a lot of baseball left," Ward after the game.
Losses have been few and far between for the Cubs, who are now 19-8.
