Royals Solve Tigers, 5-2
|
The Kansas City Royals stymied the Detroit Tigers, 5-2, at Tiger Stadium. Deion Sanders, who had a good day at the plate, was named player of the game. He was 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for Kansas City. Kansas City reliever Oscar Villarreal got the win, raising his record to 2-0. Frank Eufemia was tagged with the loss. Happy Foreman recorded the save for Kansas City, his 2nd of the season.
Kansas City relied on the hitting of Sam Bowen to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Royals on top, 3-2. For the game, Bowen had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Kansas City manager Mike Roltgen. "Our pregame was pretty good."
The Tigers drop to 9-18 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1969 season.
