The Miami Marlins went down to defeat to Shawn Estes and his Boston teammates. The final score was 3-1 in favor of the Red Sox. The win was Chris C Hatcher's in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Max Leon took the loss for Miami. Pedro J Martinez picked up the save, his 3rd.
Dale Long, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1967 draft, chipped in for Boston with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Long told the Boston Daily News.
The Marlins fall to 10-16 and continue their uneven start to the 1969 season.
