The Boston Red Sox and Bronx Yankees were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd at Fenway Park.

The exploits of second baseman Jeff Branson, who is tied for 3rd in the AL with a .962 OPS, helped the Bronx Yankees defeat the Boston Red Sox, 7-2. Branson was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks. The win brings the Yankees to 14-11, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.

It could have been a different outcome for Bronx, had it not been for Bob Nieman, the 1958 Rookie of the Year Award winner . Nieman contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put Bronx up, 3-0.

Branson expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
