Mets Take Nail-Biter Over Cardinals
|
The New York Mets had to overcome a big game from St. Louis first baseman Yulieski Gurriel to leave Shea Stadium with a 6-5 victory. Gurriel went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The win takes New York to 14-9.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Eric Karros came to bat in the bottom of the 11th. Facing St. Louis pitcher By Speece, he hit a 1-1 slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 6-5.
Karros said this kind of win gives the team "a buzz."
