Royals Take 10-1 Pounding
|
The Chicago Cubs topped the Kansas City Royals, 10-1, in National League action at Kauffman Stadium. The player of the game was Chicago pitcher and Chicago, Illinois native Fritz Peterson. Peterson, now 2-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. The Royals fall to 10-13 and continue their wobbly start to the 1969 season.
Chicago used the clutch hitting of Mike Moustakas to capture the win. The third baseman drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to give the Cubs the lead, 2-0. For the game, Moustakas had 1 single and 1 double in 5 at-bats.
"It's a good day to be a fan after a win like that," Moustakas told the Chicago Gazette.
