Yankees Win at Miami, 6-3
|
The Bronx Yankees picked up a win at Turner Field, knocking off the Miami Marlins, 6-3. Starting pitcher Kerry Wood was an essential part of his team's success. The Marlins fall to 8-13 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1969 season.
Bronx used the timely hitting of Mike Schmidt to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put the Yankees on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I liked his command," said Bronx manager Cley Twigg. "Kerry was throwing strikes."
