Expos Subdue New York, 4-3
|
Montreal beat New York at La Stade Olympique, eking out a 4-3 win. The win was due in large part to right fielder Willie McGee, who earned player of the game honors. Montreal reliever Rob Johnson picked up the win, bumping his record to 2-0. Tom Butters was collared with the loss. The loss drops New York to 10-9.
McGee had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 2-1 curveball from Tom Butters, he banged a solo home run to left, giving the Expos a 4-3 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for McGee.
"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said McGee.
