Red Sox Win at New York, 8-2
|
The Boston Red Sox topped the New York Mets by the score of 8-2, with the biggest share of the credit going to first baseman Dale Long. Long was 2-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Red Sox on the day. Shawn Estes, credited with the win, is now 10-11. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 5.2 innings. At 83-72, the Red Sox have a slim two-game lead in the American League Down.
Boston used the clutch hitting of Steve Braun to capture the win. The third baseman drilled a bases-clearing double in the top of the third inning to give the Red Sox the lead, 7-2. For the game, Braun had 1 single and 1 double in 5 at-bats.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Long told the Boston Daily News.
