Dominant Performance by Donovan in New York Win
|
New York Mets starter Dick Donovan was in fine form against the Boston Red Sox at Shea Stadium, leading his team to a 3-0 win. Al Hrabosky got the save, his 21st in 26 chances. The first-place Mets, at 97-56, now lead their division by 5½ games.
Donovan was in the zone all game. He frustrated Boston hitters while giving the Mets 7.2 innings of quality work. Donovan threw 95 pitches, allowing 1 hit and getting 7 punchouts.
"I like our mindset right now," said New York manager Jamie Dagostini.
