Expos Turn Back St. Louis, 7-5
|
The Montreal Expos topped the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 7-5, with the largest share of the credit going to designated hitter Irv Noren. Noren went 2 for 3 with a triple. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Expos. Montreal reliever Cy Buker picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Jack Hallett shouldered the loss. The save went to Fautino De Los Santos, his 2nd this season.
Andy Spognardi had a big bases-clearing double for the Expos in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Montreal trailing 5-4 and the bases loaded, he got a curveball from Frank Carpin and stroked the double to right-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Expos ahead, 7-5.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Noren said.
The win leaves Montreal with a record of 8-8.
