Cubs Win Streak Now at 7
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Chicago Cubs and the Montreal Expos, Chris Haney was the difference-maker. The Chicago left-hander earned player of the game honors in the 2-1 win. Haney, now 18-5, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing no earned runs. The first-place Cubs have won 7 straight games.
The Cubs got a big at-bat from designated hitter Matt Kemp. For the game, Kemp went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the second, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 8th home run of the season gave Chicago a 2-0 lead.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Haney said.
