Victory Pushes Red Sox Record to 80-70
|
Starting pitcher Shawn Estes pitched well enough to help the Boston Red Sox beat the Miami Marlins by the score of 7-4. Estes got the win, improving to 9-11. He allowed 5 hits and walked 1 over 6 innings. Estes allowed 4 earned runs. Stan Wall converted his 2nd save in 2 tries.
Jayson Werth put Boston in front, 5-4, when he took Brandon Cumpton downtown. His 3-run home run came with two out in the bottom of the third. It was his 18th home run of the season.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Estes said after the game.
The first-place Red Sox, at 80-70, now lead their division by 2½ games.
