Pirates Get Road Win, 7-2
|
Pittsburgh left fielder Johnny Groth made his presence felt in the 7-2 Pirates triumph over the Milwaukee Brewers. Groth went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Pittsburgh starter Randy Wolf was credited with the win after throwing 125 pitches over 8 innings. His record now stands at 13-10. Pittsburgh, now 89-58, holds second place in the National League Right.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out in the top of the sixth inning. That's when shortstop Benji Gil, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1966 draft, drew a walk. The Pirates went on to win.
"I like our moxie," said Pirates manager Cory Einhorn.
