Victory Pushes Cubs Record to 92-55
|
Chicago starter Nelson Figueroa had a strong outing against the Montreal Expos at Wrigley Field. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 5-3 win. Chicago reliever Tim Cooney picked up the win, upping his record to 4-4. Mike L Griffin absorbed the loss. Adam Ottavino, credited with the save, is now 2 for 5 in save opportunities.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd and two out in the bottom of the seventh inning. That's when shortstop Phil Rizzuto, who is a two-time All-Star, reached on an error by the SS. The Cubs went on to win.
"I like seeing our guys get a return on what they've put in," said Chicago manager Matt Ida.
The first-place Cubs now have a 5-game winning streak.
