Bronx got an elite performance from starting pitcher Kerry Wood in taking a 4-1 decision over the New York Mets. Wood, the winner, moves to 9-11. He threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 2 walks. Don Mossi notched his 21st save in 28 chances.

It could have been a different outcome for Bronx, had it not been for Scooter Gennett, the 27-year old first baseman . Gennett contributed a solo home run in the top of the second inning to put Bronx up, 1-0.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Gennett.

The Yankees bumped their record to 75-71 with this latest triumph.
