Red Sox Get Road Win, 4-3
|
The Boston Red Sox got a rather unremarkable outing from starting pitcher Shawn Estes, but it was good enough for the club to take a 4-3 decision over the St. Louis Cardinals. Estes, now 8-11, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 2, and allowing 2 earned runs. Pedro J Martinez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 20 of 28 save opportunities.
The result might have been different for Boston, had it not been for Jim Gleeson. The left fielder produced a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 4-0. For the game, Gleeson had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"This was a good win," said Gleeson.
The first-place Red Sox, at 76-69, now lead their division by 2 games.
