|
New York designated hitter Dick Davis made his presence felt in the 8-3 Mets triumph over the Bronx Yankees. Davis went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Mickey Haefner was the winning pitcher. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. New York leads the American League Up by 6½ games.
Davis contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for New York in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 2-0, Davis took a sinker from Jim Hickey and stroked the home run to left-center. His 5th home run of the season allowed the Mets to leap in front, 3-2.
