Mets Score Late to Upend Yankees, 9-6
|
The New York Mets downed the Bronx Yankees, 9-6, at Shea Stadium. Bob Elliott led the way, going 4-for-5 for New York. Reliever Tom Davey picked up the win. His record improves to 1-1. Don Mossi took the loss. Cam Bedrosian notched his 5th save in 6 chances.
Phil B Clark chipped in for New York with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the third baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 runs batted in.
Clark said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
New York is now 90-54, 6½ games up in the American League Up.
