Late Rally by Tigers Secures Win
|
The Detroit Tigers faced a tough opponent in Milwaukee pitcher Kirk McCaskill, but did just enough to pull out the victory at County Stadium by a final score of 8-3. McCaskill went 6 innings and allowed no earned runs. Joel Pineiro, who went 8.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 10 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 4-15. Detroit bumps their record to 57-85 with the win.
Detroit used the timely hitting of Jody Davis to capture the win. The catcher stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Tigers on top, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Detroit manager Brian Rodgers.
