Dodgers Bridle Mets, 4-3
|
The Brooklyn Dodgers did just enough to sneak past the New York Mets, 4-3, at Shea Stadium. Brooklyn pitcher Greg Mathews earned player of the game honors. In 8 innings, Mathews surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 3. He allowed 3 runs. Mike A Anderson notched his 7th save in 12 chances.
It could have been a different outcome for Brooklyn, had it not been for Bill Bean, the 22-year old center fielder . Bean contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put Brooklyn up, 4-0.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Brooklyn manager Jason Spiegel.
The Dodgers are now 62-81, while the Mets fall to 89-54.
