Cubs Get Road Win, 7-4
|
Chicago and St. Louis duked it out at Busch Stadium and the Cubs came out victorious.
The Chicago Cubs stopped the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-4, at Busch Stadium. The Cubs got a big game from Dave Winfield, who was 2 for 4 with a double and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner was Kyle Gibson, who threw 107 pitches over 7.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 8 hits. Tim Cooney converted his 3rd save in 6 tries.
Winfield contributed a big hit, a bases-clearing double, for Chicago in the top of the third. With his team trailing 2-1, Winfield took a fastball from Chuck Estrada and stroked the double to center. His 27th double of the season allowed the Cubs to leap in front, 4-2.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Winfield said.
The Cubs have an impressive 87-53 record.
