Red Sox Need Extras to Top Expos
|
The Red Sox had to overcome a good performance from Montreal pitcher Denny McLain to claim a 3-2 win at Fenway Park. McLain went 6 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Boston reliever Chris C Hatcher picked up the win, bumping his record to 3-2. Rod Beck was collared with the loss. Montreal has now lost 4 in a row.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 13th inning, when Boston center fielder Jayson Werth, facing Pat Caraway, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Red Sox the 3-2 win.
"It's great to get the crowd pumped up," Werth said.
