Royals Lose to Red Sox, 5-3
|
Boston starter Clayton Richard pitched effectively against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. The left-hander led his team to a 5-3 win. Pedro J Martinez earned his 18th save in 26 chances. The first-place Red Sox have a one-game lead in their division.
It could have been a different outcome for Boston, had it not been for Eli Marrero, the 25-year old catcher . Marrero contributed a 2-run single in the top of the second inning to put Boston up, 3-0.
In postgame comments to the Boston Daily News, Richard said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
