Walk-Off Victory for Rockies Takes Record to 84-52
|
Rockies designated hitter Lonnie Smith put his stamp on his team's 8-7 win over the Brooklyn Dodgers. Smith went 3 for 6 with 2 home runs and 3 walks. He scored 3 runs and drove in 6 for Colorado in the contest. Colorado reliever Jim R Johnson was the winner. His record is now 5-1. The losing pitcher was Brent Knackert. Colorado is now 84-52, 3 games up in the National League Right.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Steve R Ontiveros came to bat in the bottom of the 18th. Facing Brooklyn pitcher Jackson Todd, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Colorado on top, 8-7.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Smith.
