Royals Drop Red Sox with Late Score
|
The Kansas City Royals faced a tough opponent in Boston pitcher Shawn Estes, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Kauffman Stadium by a final score of 3-2. Estes went 8 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Kansas City reliever Matt Hensley picked up the win, upping his record to 5-1. Pedro J Martinez absorbed the loss. At 54-81, the Royals find themselves in third place in the National League Left.
Dave Nelson was the walk-off hero for Kansas City. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Royals third baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Kansas City manager Mike Roltgen said.
