Dodgers Jolt Red Sox with Late Rally
|
The Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the Boston Red Sox, 6-3, in American League action at Fenway Park, with Brooklyn right fielder Willie Mays named player of the game. Brooklyn reliever Tex Shirley got the win, raising his record to 6-5. George Mohart was tagged with the loss. The Dodgers now own a record of 59-72.
Mays had a game-changing single in the top of the eighth. On a full count fastball from Stan Wall, he banged a 2-run single to center, giving the Dodgers a 5-3 lead. It was the 151st hit of the year for Mays.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Mays.
