Brewers Turn Back Detroit, 6-4
|
With right fielder Hersh Martin leading the charge, the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Detroit Tigers, 6-4, at County Stadium. Martin, who is tied for 10th in the NL with a .320 batting average, was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times. The Tigers drop to 6-7 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1969 season.
Jim Bottomley had a big 2-run double for the Brewers in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Milwaukee leading 3-2 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a slider from Toby Borland and stroked the double to right-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Brewers ahead, 5-2.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Martin said.
