Jay Ritchie came out of the bullpen and worked through tough situations all year, and for his performance he's been named the recipient of the Sub League 1 Reliever of the Year Award for 2001.

The 29-year-old out of Salisbury, North Carolina captured the award with 13 saves in 48 relief appearances, 102 strikeouts in 92.1 innings and a record of 1 win and 2 losses to go with his 2.14 ERA.

"I'm thankful, it's a great honor," he told Baseball News Network.

He received 20 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Mike Remlinger of the Honolulu Pioneers finished second in voting, while Don Kaiser of the Hudson Valley Renegades finished third.
