Cruise Belts 5 Hits
Sunday, September 23rd , 2001
Walton Cruise was at the head of a Tampa hit parade at Kauffman Stadium. The left fielder went to the plate 7 times and came away with 5 hits, sparking the Deputies to a nice 18-6 victory over the Chesterfield Royals.
"I told the guys in the dugout, just be thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging Cruise told reporters after the game. "Seems like it worked out well for us today."
Royals skipper said later that the club gave up "too much plate."
"Not the way we planned it," he said. "Every hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."
Walton Cruise hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off Michael Kohn in the 8th and flied out in the 9th.
This season in 139 games, Cruise is batting .350 with 33 home runs, 128 RBIs and has scored 119 times.
