Greif Pitches Gem as Express Beat Raleigh, 5-0 Sunday, September 9th , 2001 The Raleigh Sox were almost helpless in their 5-0 loss to the Madison Express and hurler Bill Greif. Greif kept the Sox confused all game, spinning a 2-hit shutout. "Tip your hat to Greif," Raleigh manager said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night." The 20-year-old right-hander had 1 walk and 6 strikeouts in a strong performance. "It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Greif said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way." Greif has posted a 14-12 record for the year with a 4.19 ERA. Teams are hitting .242 against him and he has rung up 173 strikeouts in 206 innings. |
