Jungels Gone for Season in Huntington Beach
Tuesday, September 4th , 2001
The doctors have spoken and Ken Jungels of the Huntington Beach Phoenix didn't like what he heard. The 22-year-old reliever is almost certainly gone for the rest of the year and depending on his progress could miss some of next season as well. Jungels sustained his season-ending injury during the Providence Barons game yesterday at Providence Grounds. He had to leave the game because he hurt himself while throwing a pitch. Today the Huntington Beach medical staff reported Jungels had a torn flexor tendon in his elbow and would be absent from the lineup for at least 11 months.
To this point in the season, Jungels has put up these figures: 4-11 record, 21 relief appearances with 142 innings, no saves, 95 strikeouts, 83 walks and a 7.04 ERA. He has limited other teams to a .304 batting average.
