The Oxnard Silverbacks will have to find a new second baseman next year as veteran Pee Wee Reese is set to retire at the end of the 2001 campaign.
Reese, age 37, is ready for retirement. "Time takes its toll on this old body. I can't do it as well as I want anymore. It's time to hang up the spikes and make way for a younger guy."
